When you have a company or business and you develop an online presence, you must monitor your reputation. Having a positive reputation is essential if you want to establish a relationship with your customers. Here are a few ways you can manage your online presence.
Do a Google Search
Find out what others see when they do a search by searching for your own name or your business. Enter your company name in quotations in a Google search and review the results. Notice if any irrelevant results come up or if they all relate to your business. Then pay attention if there are any negative comments.
To make this realistic, try out different search engines and notice the various results. Try searching on Google when you are logged out or on a different computer so the results are not designed for you. This will give you a better idea of how others will see you.
Do More Research
Create a Google alert for your business. This will notify you to any new mention of your company so that you always know what is being said. You should also set an alert for your competition to know what is being said about them, too.
Know what content you are going to share and when. If others in your company are also participating online in your company’s name, make sure they know the guidelines. Determine what information or topics are off limits for sharing and make sure everyone follows this.
Encourage your employees to interact but make sure they know they should always respond respectfully even when arguing a point. Listen to the comments and ask questions. Make sure you thank your customers and visitors for their input even if you don’t agree with it.
Plan a Worst-Case Scenario
The more prepared you are to handle negative actions the better you will be able to respond. Many problems will be avoided just by thinking ahead, and you will know what to do if they should happen. For instance, what if your business is associated with a negative story? Even if it’s not true or taken out of context, you will have to find a way to initiate a correct response.
Build Up Your Profiles
Check out your website and your social profiles to make sure they say what you want them to say. Does your website have solid content and provide valuable information that will support the reputation you are attempting to build? Does your website and profiles show you as a real person and not just a business? In today’s online world, people want to know they are dealing with a human behind the corporation.
Everything you do on your pages should show that the customer is your primary focus. Answer their questions, respond to their comments, and show an appreciation for them.
Managing your reputation is not a one-time occurrence; you must do this on a continual basis. This is the only way to protect your company and the brand you are building.
